Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has vowed to protect Bitcoin if he is elected president of the United States. DeSantis made the announcement during a speech at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami.

“I believe that Bitcoin is a revolutionary technology that has the potential to change the world,” DeSantis said. “If I am elected president, I will work to protect Bitcoin and its users from government overreach.”

DeSantis’s comments come at a time when the cryptocurrency industry is facing increasing scrutiny from regulators around the world. In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been cracking down on cryptocurrency exchanges and initial coin offerings (ICOs).

DeSantis’s promise to protect Bitcoin has been welcomed by the cryptocurrency community. “This is a major step forward for Bitcoin adoption,” said Charlie Shrem, a Bitcoin entrepreneur and early investor. “Ron DeSantis is the first major presidential candidate to come out in support of Bitcoin.”

It remains to be seen whether DeSantis will be elected president, but his comments have certainly made waves in the cryptocurrency community. If he is elected, DeSantis would be the first president in history to have a positive stance on Bitcoin.

In addition to protecting Bitcoin, DeSantis also announced plans to create a “Cryptocurrency Task Force” within the Department of Treasury. The task force would be responsible for developing policies and regulations that would promote the growth of the cryptocurrency industry in the United States.

DeSantis’s announcement is a major victory for the cryptocurrency community. It shows that there is growing support for Bitcoin among politicians, and it could help to pave the way for further adoption of the cryptocurrency in the United States.
